Breed/Type: Lab mix
Location: Harrisburg, PA
Lilly is an 8-year-old, 60-pound Lab mix with a sweet, loving nature and a big heart. She needs a patient foster while her owner, an active-duty military member, deploys from April 2 to November 12, 2025. The owner can transport Lilly within a 2-hour radius of Harrisburg, PA. Meet-and-greets will be arranged before placement to ensure a good fit.
Lilly is a low-maintenance companion who thrives in a calm, structured environment. She is house-trained, crate-trained (though she doesn’t require crating), and leash-trained.
Lilly is affectionate with her owner and loves to follow them around, nap nearby, and receive attention from people she trusts. She greets her owner with hugs and enjoys routine activities like walks, hikes, and playing in creeks. She also loves playing tug-of-war and short games of fetch.
Lilly has very high anxiety and is fearful reactive, with dogs, cats, children, trucks, motorcycles and other things that are fast-moving and noisy. This means she will bark and growl, but has never attacked as her owner and trainer keep her at “heel” and remove her from these situations.
While she has made progress in reducing her reactivity through training, she needs a patient foster who understands fearfulness in dogs and is committed to giving her the time and space she needs to adjust. Lilly responds well to structured environments and verbal corrections.
On walks, Lilly is eager to explore but may pull if startled by loud noises or sudden movements. She responds to commands like “heel” and is more relaxed when crowds or other dogs are avoided. In busy areas, Lilly can wear a muzzle as an extra precaution.
Lilly has successfully interacted with other dogs in controlled environments, but she requires slow introductions and a calm, understanding dog companion. Her ideal foster home is pet-free or has a dog that is non-reactive and allows her to warm up at her own pace.
Foster must be found by March 1, 2025 – so meet and greets can occur to ensure a positive foster experience for all.
Fostering Lilly is not just about helping a dog in need—it’s about allowing her owner to continue serving our country. This is your chance to make an extraordinary impact by offering Lilly a safe, loving home and giving her owner the peace of mind to fulfill their duties.
