Meet Knight: A Fun-Loving, Playful German Shepherd in Need of a Foster Home!
Knight is a sweet and energetic 1-year-old German Shepherd looking for a loving foster home while his owners transition to a new military post overseas. His owners plan to bring him over with them in a year*, but Knight needs a foster from April 26, 2025, until April 26, 2026. Located in Yorktown, VA, they are willing to transport within an 8-hour radius to find the perfect foster family for this happy boy.
Knight is a 75-pound, medium-energy German Shepherd with a playful, affectionate, and goofy personality. He’s house and crate-trained and semi-leash trained. Knight sleeps soundly in his crate at night, but he needs to be crated when left alone, as he can get a little anxious. While he’s good on a leash, he does tend to pull when excited, especially if he spots another dog or something that catches his attention on walks.
Knight loves long walks, playing fetch, and squeaky toys, and he could happily play for hours! He enjoys sniffing around during walks but will eagerly pull if he sees another dog he wants to meet. His favorite toys are balls and squeaky soft toys—he’s a toy enthusiast! While Knight isn’t much of a cuddler, he does enjoy being by your side and will nudge you for attention, even resting his head on your lap for some love. Belly rubs are his absolute favorite!
Despite his playful nature, Knight can be a bit sensitive to loud noises like garbage trucks, school buses, and ice cream trucks, which can startle him and make him try to pull away. He’s a well-behaved boy overall with no destructive tendencies—though he might swipe a sock or two for a little fun!
Knight is also great with people, children, cats, and other dogs. While he’s never lived with children, he’s had experience with them and has always been friendly, though he might not realize how big he is and could accidentally knock little ones over when jumping. He’s also been raised with cats and enjoys playing with them, though they may not always be up for his playful antics.
Knight has some food sensitivities, so he should be fed the special food and treats his owner will provide. He’s not allowed table food, and any unattended food should be kept out of his reach, as he might try to swipe it! He’s great at communicating when he needs to go outside—whining when he’s in his crate, followed by a bark if it’s not answered.
Perfect Foster Family for Knight
The ideal foster family for Knight will be one that can provide him with plenty of attention, exercise, and clear rules. Knight is a social, energetic dog who loves being around people and other pets, so a family who can take him on walks, play with him, and make sure he stays engaged will be a great match. He needs a loving and safe environment where he can be himself, have fun, and get the exercise he needs to stay happy.
Knight’s Tricks
Knight is also pretty impressive with his tricks! He knows how to sit, speak, paw, roll over, spin, stay, release, hand, (when you hold out your hand, he touches it with his nose), and leave it!
Knight is a big sweetheart with a lovable, goofy, and sometimes diva-like personality. Whether he’s licking you all over or playfully pushing you away with his paw, he’ll keep you smiling and entertained. If you think Knight could be the perfect fit for your family, we’d love for you to give him the temporary home he needs until his family can bring him back to them.
