Meet Carina – A Sweet, Loving Coonhound in Need of a Foster Home!

Carina is a 5-year-old Coonhound who’s looking for a loving foster family while her owner receives chemotherapy from Feb 28, 2025 to June 30, 2025. A family member will be able to transport her within a 4-hour radius of Glen Ridge, NJ, making her perfect for anyone nearby who’s ready to provide some love and care during this time.

Carina is a house- and leash-trained gal who loves to stay active! She walks beautifully on a gentle leader (and won’t pull if you use it!), making her a great companion for long walks or outdoor adventures. Carina is friendly with people, kids, and other dogs, though her interactions with other dogs have been limited due to her owner’s anxiety. The experiences she has had with other dogs were always positive—she was friendly, eager to play, and enjoyed meeting new canine friends! Carina’s gentle nature makes her a great choice for someone looking to foster a dog who’s easy-going and well-mannered.

Carina has minimal experience with cats, and while she does tend to chase them, it’s all in the spirit of play—unfortunately, most cats don’t seem to appreciate her enthusiasm! She’s also had limited exposure to babies and toddlers, but when she met them, she was simply curious, sniffing and licking them with affection.

This sweet girl is food-motivated and LOVES to play. She’s a big fan of her stuffed hedgehog toy and has a knack for jumping high into the air when she gets excited (it’s pretty impressive!). While Carina hasn’t quite mastered fetch yet, she’s happy to chase after toys and balls with all her energy. She enjoys her daily walks, where she loves to sniff everything around her, and is also a fan of car rides!

Carina is a bit of a talker and will make some adorable noises when she’s hungry or wants attention (and yes, she may bark a bit too!). She loves to cuddle up and has a favorite chair where she likes to sleep. At night, she’ll sleep peacefully in the room with you—but not on the bed (she has her own spot!). Carina even has a cute quirk—she snores while she sleeps and sometimes scares herself with her own farts!

While Carina has not been crate trained, she doesn’t have any destructive behaviors and can be left unattended without issues. She’s a well-mannered girl and is comfortable in a relaxed, open environment—just a loving space where she can roam freely and enjoy her time with you.

While Carina has been used to a quieter home, we think she’d thrive in a more active household as well, especially one that can give her lots of love, attention, and playtime.

If you’re able to offer Carina a warm and loving home while her owner focuses on treatment, please reach out! She’s a smart, affectionate dog who deserves all the care and affection she can get during this time.

Interested in fostering? Carina will make a wonderful addition to your home—she’s eager to meet new friends and has a heart full of love to give. Reach out today to help this sweet girl while her owner focuses on recovery!

Let’s give Carina the love and support she deserves! 💕
