Meet Ruger – Foster Needed May 13, 2025 – April 15, 2026

Ruger is a 150-pound, 4-year-old Great Dane with a big heart and a goofy, easygoing personality. His owner is preparing for a deployment to Africa and is searching for a safe, loving foster home to care for Ruger during this time.

Ruger loves people and makes a great companion. While he’s got some size to him, his heart is all snuggles and soft glances. He’s happiest with regular walks, yard time, and a comfy place to nap.

📍 Transport Available Within a 4-Hour Radius of Salem, OR
(Owner is willing to stretch that radius slightly for the right fit!)

Meet Ruger

• Loyal Gentle Giant – 150 pounds of love with a medium energy level

• Loves Walks & Tug-of-War – Enjoys 1-2 walks/day, dog parks, and fenced yard time

• House-Trained – Free-roams the house during the day and sleeps on his dog bed at night (though he may sneak into yours!)

• Crate Trained – Though no longer crated, he’s familiar with one

• No Cats, Small Dogs, or Young Children – Startled by small dogs due to a negative experience; teens OK

• Good with Large Dogs – Social and well-mannered on and off leash

• People-Lover – Affectionate and eager to bond with his humans

• Manners in Progress – Will occasionally counter-surf or check out the trash but responds well to redirection

Ruger’s Ideal Foster Home

Ruger would thrive in a pet-free home or one with large, dog-friendly pups. He needs an active individual or family who enjoys walks, playtime, and companionship. A fenced yard would be ideal for off-leash fun. He’s a great match for someone who appreciates lazy afternoons after a long walk and wants a loyal companion by their side.
