🧡 Meet Butterscotch & Cheddar — Looking for a Loving Foster While Their Human Serves!
Location: Huntington, NY – Willing to travel up to 6 hours for the right foster match
Foster dates needed: June 1, 2025 – June 2026 (12 months)
Reason: Owner deploying for military service
Meet Butterscotch (6) and Cheddar (4), two lovable Pembroke Welsh Corgis in need of a warm, caring foster home while their devoted human serves our country. These 25-lb bundles of love are based in Huntington, NY, and their owner is happy to travel up to six hours to place them in a safe, nurturing environment. Though they’re best as a pair, we’re open to thoughtfully splitting them up if it helps ensure they’re both well cared for during this time. Let’s find them a home where they can keep spreading their signature corgi joy until their human returns!
🧀 Meet Cheddar – Your Friendly, Playful Sidekick
Cheddar is a 4-year-old neutered male who’s never met a stranger he didn’t like! Purchased as a puppy, this guy loves attention from people and other dogs and is great with all ages, from babies to grown-ups. He’s playful but not demanding, enjoys fetch (though he prefers not to give the ball back), and is always up for a quick game of tug.
He’s fully house trained, but like many pups, he’s had a couple of minor poop accidents after boarding—nothing out of the ordinary, especially when too many treats are involved. He’s crate trained for travel (needs a little coaxing in), but at home he’s free-roaming upstairs when left alone with Butterscotch.
Cheddar enjoys 5–10 minute walks once or twice a day, leads with excitement but isn’t a puller, and will happily greet other people and pups on the way. He’s curious, confident, and will bark at things like doorbells and loud trucks, but hey—he’s just doing his job! He sleeps in a cozy dog bed in the bedroom or occasionally on cool bathroom tiles, and yes, he’s allowed on furniture (but not the human bed).
Medications:
Dry eye (right eye only): Tacrolimus & Optimmune eye drops – 2x/day
Simparica Trio: Monthly
Probiotic: With breakfast and dinner
🍬 Meet Butterscotch – The Gentle, Loyal Companion
Butterscotch is a sweet 6-year-old neutered male who was rescued at age two and has blossomed into a chill, affectionate companion. He’s a bit more reserved than Cheddar—he warms up slowly to new people and dogs, and he prefers to keep his distance from large, alpha-type dogs due to a traumatic incident in puppyhood.
He has a sensitive side and may show a little separation anxiety—he’ll bark when you say “bye” (so the humans spell it!), and he watches the door when you’re getting ready to leave. But once you’re out, he quickly settles down and waits quietly for your return.
Like Cheddar, he’s house trained, crate trained for car rides (and hops right in), and roams free upstairs when left home. Walks are short and manageable, though he can get barky if he sees other dogs or bikes—picking him up by the handle on his harness helps him calm down. He enjoys affection and will ask for it with a little bark when he’s feeling cuddly.
Medications:
Fluoxetine: For anxiety
Simparica Trio: Monthly
Probiotic: With breakfast and dinner
💌 Can You Help These Corgis While Their Human Serves?
Both dogs are happy, healthy, and low-maintenance with predictable routines. They’re used to hanging out together, lounging on furniture, and being part of a home where they’re loved and included. Their owner’s deployment begins June 1, 2025, and will last for 12 months. A foster (or two!) is urgently needed to make sure these boys have a safe, happy home while they wait to reunite with their favorite person.
If you can open your home—and heart—to Butterscotch and Cheddar, even temporarily, please reach out. Their bags are packed (with probiotics and squeaky toys), and they’re ready for a cozy new adventure with you! 💛
