programs

PACT develops, implements and administers programs that directly benefit both companion animals and their owners. We believe that providing knowledge and inspiring the community thru our unique programs, such as the Military Foster and Hospital Foster Programs, is an excellent way to improve the lives of companion animals and their human owners so both can live healthier (physically and psychologically) and happier lives together for their mutual benefit.

PACT for Animals is enhancing and building the human-companion animal bond by:

Supporting deployed military personnel by providing foster care for their pets

Many of us don’t consider that when a soldier is called to serve our country there may be an animal left behind without anyone to care for them. PACT is committed to helping those who are serving our country by finding safe, loving and stable foster homes for their pets while they are deployed overseas.

PACT for Animals military foster program provides:

  • Foster homes for pets belonging to deployed military personnel.
  • Keep deployed military personnel updated on their pet’s well-being via foster parents’ regular correspondence and photographs of their pets.
  • When feasible, foster parents continue to be a part of the lives of their foster companion pets once the rightful owner returns from active duty.

PACT began accepting fosters in the summer of 2011. In the last 6 months of 2011, we fostered 4 companion animals. In the first 6 months of 2012, we fostered 36 companion animals (9 times our 2011 fosters). We anticipate by December 2012 having fostered approximately 100 companion animals.

We need your support!

Help us make a difference by becoming a foster parent to a canine, feline or bird lovingly left behind by their deployed military owner. We are looking to you to make a difference in the lives of not only a beloved pet, but to also help out those who are dedicating their lives to fighting for us!

Supporting hospital patients by providing foster homes for their pets

In the spring of 2012, PACT fostered a companion animal for a family whose child was hospitalized. These PACT foster programs focus on providing care for the companion animals of hospitalized military personnel, short or long term care, families of children and cancer patients, all of whom need our help while receiving medical treatments.

  • Hospital stays can vary in length from 1 month up to a year or longer.
  • Often, the patient has no one to look after his/her animal(s). Additionally, often the patient’s family will temporarily live at a residence at or near the hospital in order to care for their loved one.
  • PACT provides hospital patients with loving foster homes for their companion animal during their hospitalization.
  • Families no longer have to worry about providing adequate time, attention, and care for pets while a loved one is hospitalized.
  • Instead of turning a pet over to an animal shelter as a last resort, families can now place their loving companion animal(s) into a PACT approved foster home.
  • Families know their “best friends” are being well taken care of while a family member is being treated, which results in one less thing the family has to worry about during tough times of illness and stress.

Educating children about companion animal issues

Through free educational programs, workshops and student-run projects, PACT expands children’s knowledge of companion animals, their needs and how we, humans, can help them. It’s been said that the children are our future, and when it comes to PACT, those words hold true. Children (from kindergarten to early teenagers) are an integral part in PACT’s mission of increasing the human-companion animal bond.

PACT for Animals educational program provides:

  • Free, age-appropriate lectures and workshops
  • Consultation on student-run projects
  • Distribution of donations collected to shelters via student-run projects
  • Organized activities, gatherings and events for children

Inspiring and informing humans about local and national companion animal issues

Building the human-animal bond starts with understanding the issues facing companion animals. By way of free seminars and humane educational programs, we hope to educate the public about important animal issues confronting us today.

PACT for Animals seminars cover:

  • “No Kill” shelters
  • Breed specific legislation and prejudice
  • Puppy mills
  • Horse slaughter and rights
  • Importance of spaying and neutering
  • Furthering the human-companion animal bond

Providing additional supplies for shelters through donations and collections

PACT engages both adults and children on collection of supplies, equipment and donations for animal shelters and rescue organizations in need of assistance. These collections greatly benefit the recipients and their temporary residents waiting patiently for loving forever homes.

PACT donation barrels are placed within varying locations including law schools, office buildings and retail establishments.

We need your support!

Help us make a difference by starting a collection of your own, donating supplies to one of our ongoing collections or by donating money.

Finding permanent homes through animal adoption and foster programs

PACT strives to find homes for dogs and cats in need through adoptions and fostering. PACT sponsored cat adoption rooms are showcased at Buzzy’s Bow WOW Meow in Narberth, PA. At a greatly reduced cost/donation families are able to adopt healthy spayed/neutered cats or kittens who have been vaccinated and micro-chipped. Adoptive families also receive a free bag of food sponsored by PACT.

PACT for Animals adoption and foster programs provide:

  • Convenient location for adoption events.
  • Ability to spend time and interact with adoptable animals.
  • Spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped cats and kittens for adoption at reduced adoption rates.
  • Rescue for dogs including pit bull mixes, which make up approximately 80% of shelter dogs in the city of Philadelphia.
  • Discounted supplies for foster homes.
  • Obedience training support for foster animals.
